The sun is shining, the birds are singing, it's warm and I just want one thing: to be outside. From late spring to autumn the weather in Vienna is mostly sunny. Of course we also have bad weather fronts, but basically you can do a lot outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. Fortunately, Vienna is also one of the greenest cities in Europe and therefore offers many opportunities for being outdoors - not only for sociable evenings, but also for sports fans like me.
If you like to run, you will quickly find a running route that suits your sporting needs - no matter if you just want to run straight along the Danube Canal or go trail running in the Prater or in the Vienna Woods. It is understandable that Vienna has a big running community: we have great places to run which are just around the corner.
If you prefer to run in a group, there are running clubs in each district or you can run with other running aficionados with Adidas Runbase, do a stretching session or even attend a yoga class. In addition, there are always other companies that set up "Pop up" running bases in Vienna during the summer – don’t miss it!
If running is not enough for you, you can of course also do your exercises in the park or join the Vienna City Boot Camp, which meets regularly early in the morning to raise pulses and workout the whole of the body.
The love of yoga has also conquered Vienna. No matter whether you are a fan of Forrest Yoga, Hot Yoga, Flow yoga, Anusara Yoga, Power Yoga or other styles of yoga: in Vienna you will find everything the yoga heart desires. When the weather is fine, there are yoga classes outdoors, where you can turn your face to the sun while breathing in fresh energy. An experience which I can certainly recommend to anyone and which simply cannot be compared to a yoga lesson in a studio.
For me the best place is the Augarten with its unique floral splendour. Here you can attend various yoga classes throughout the summer. On Sundays you can even practise yoga in the sand: Hermanns Strandbar offers yoga classes every Sunday. For the more ambitious, once a week there is also power yoga in the small garden of the Supercycle-Vienna Studio. Namaste!
Vienna has more to offer than running and yoga. There are also many sports that you may have never tried, but would like to test. For example, every Friday from 3 pm you can train your balance and body tension on the Slackline in the Vienna Prater.
If you would prefer to try water sports, you do not have to go to a lake. Because in Vienna there is more than beautiful forests and lush meadows: thanks to the Danube and its tributaries there are also quiet waters in which you can try stand up paddling and SUP Yoga amongst other things. For those who need more power: with the wakeboard lift you can let yourself be pulled a few laps over the water. An absolute experience - not only for beginners! That's really fun!
