The best museum shops in Vienna

In other years there have been hardly so many opportunities to visit a museum during a city break to Vienna as there were in 2018. To mark the theme of the year 2018 – Viennese Modernism (as well as many other anniversaries) - Vienna’s museums have featured a particularly large number of exhibitions in their programmes which are well worth seeing.

So why not look for a fine art catalogue, beautiful replicas, original souvenirs or high-quality gifts from Vienna in one of the museums instead of the usual souvenir shops? The selection varies from museum to museum and is very often characterised by the themes or the artists of a current exhibition.

So you will find in the newly opened Imperial Shop Vienna in the Hofburg an excellent selection of the finest Viennese souvenirs and culinary delights. The imperial flair of yesteryear is presented in a modern setting and offers space for exquisite art and craft products. Some are even from former suppliers to the imperial and royal court. Whether a small souvenir or a luxurious gift – you will definitely a slice of Vienna to take home with you!

The Spanish Riding School has pretty mementos in stock, such as the original gloves made of cream-colored deerskin, which are part of the uniform of the Riding School, or other high-quality accessories such as saddlecloths, bandages and other things for horse lovers. In the Design Shop of the MAK, the Museum of Applied Arts, you will find an excellent selection of designer products from traditional to industrial design.

I am therefore going to take you to some of the most beautiful Viennese museum shops where you can look for high-quality souvenirs of Vienna and take home a small piece of the Austrian capital with you!

Vienna’s museums from Pieter Bruegel to Monet

The Albertina has just recently opened the largest Monet exhibition in 20 years, including around 100 works of art by the great Impressionist and “Master of Light”. The new exhibition of Pieter Bruegel senior in the Kunsthistorisches Museum to mark the 450th anniversary of his death is equally as interesting.

Vienna's museums away from the great masters

It doesn't always have to be a great artist or name! Many Viennese museums also dedicate their research activities to other cultures, older traditions or contemporary design. The Jewish Museum therefore carries Europe’s largest range of design goods from Israel, while the MAK has the most extensive range of hip design collections.
