The Ljubljanica and its bridges

You get a slight sense of Venice when you walk alongside the Ljubljanica and cross one of the bridges designed by architectural master Jože Plečnik. If it didn’t go dark, you could sit forever in one of the pretty cafes on the riverbank.

    Boat trip on the Ljubljanica

    Tromostovje Triple Bridge

    The Tromostovje, or the three bridges, have been the subject of many a souvenir photo. They are one of the capital’s landmarks and are situated at the foot of Preseren Square. The simple stone bridge was designed in 1842 by the architect Giovanni Picco and expanded to a triple bridge by Jože Plečnik in 1929.

    Dragon Bridge

    If you walk around the city observing things, you’ll soon realise that the dragon plays a special role in Ljubljana. According to legend, a dragon once lived in Ljubljana, and a fearsome symbol of him still towers up over the Dragon Bridge. If you’re looking for a good spot for a photo, be sure to make a stop here.

    Nightlife in Ljubljana

    During the day, the Ljubljanica riverbank is a lively meeting place. As soon as the sun sets, it transforms into a fantastic and unique street party. You can go from bar to bar and sip cocktails in the open air. In the 50,000-strong student city, there’s always something going on in the evenings.
