At the moment, we still have to do without some art and cultural events but the Viennese museums are finally treating us to their art treasures again. The diversity of the (inter)national art styles ranges from Andy Warhol's Pop Art and contemporary art to various anniversaries around music, architecture and Viennese modernism in honor of Ludwig van Beethoven, Adolf Loos or Josef Hoffmann. The stagings in the various museums are as fascinating as the individual genres of art: from imperial, historic halls of the Kunsthistorisches Museum to the modern exhibition halls of the MUMOK at Museumsquartier.
In addition, the Kunsthistorisches Museum will celebrate its 130th anniversary in 2021, and to mark the occasion invites you to the museum on your birthday – free of charge! An ideal opportunity to escape from the current daily routine during your next visit to Vienna and to get other thoughts thanks to colorful, inspiring art. I have personally visited all the exhibitions in the last few weeks and always felt absolutely safe in our local museums (with distance and FFP2 mask). My personal tip: Many museums offer timeslots for your visit or the possibility to purchase online tickets. You can order them completely contactless in advance and download them to your smartphone.
The longing for fresh, blooming nature is great after the winter as well as various lockdowns. Therefore, especially shows on landscape painting are very popular - just like the pecial exhibition on the baroque painter Johann Jakob Hartmann at the Upper Belvedere.
In the following months, we can once again enjoy world-class art in Vienna's museums. After the lockdown, many museums have returned with new exhibitions that are worth seeing, and some shows have even been extended, while others are still in the starting blocks.
