St. Peter's Abbey Culinarium has been hidden at the foot of the Mönchberg for over 1000 years. You sit here by candlelight in a splendidly renovated vault, the atmosphere is elegant and the Salzburger Nockerl (a sweet soufflé) are not only tasty, but also magnificent to look at!
The Wilder Mann restaurant is located in the Getreidegasse in the heart of Salzburg. The rustic restaurant is small and cosy. The fried beef and onions is the best in the city. In summer it is especially nice here in the garden in the quiet inner courtyard - a small oasis of peace in the middle of the old town!
Leather benches, crystal chandeliers, freshly pulled apple strudel - Café Bazar is Austrian coffee house culture at its best. The terrace directly on the River Salzach and the view over the old town also make the traditional café a top address for a lazy breakfast at weekends. The pastries are a dream and the newspaper stands are always well filled – why not just spend all day here!
Every Thursday a culinary spectacle takes place around St Andrew’s Church, for which you don't need a ticket: the “Schranne”. At four in the morning, the first stallholders fill their shelves with fruit, vegetables, cheese, bacon, smoked fish and organic bread. The spectacle ends at 1.00 pm. Therefore: come early and taste the whole range of specialities!
