His last studio in Hietzing, where he sometimes stayed overnight, was actually once just a simple garden house in the suburbs. Today it is the villa that its subsequent owners turned it into – but you can still drink sparkling wine with friends inside Josef Hoffmann's interior and Klimt's perfectly recreated last study.
The Café Tivoli near the park of Schönbrunn Palace, which Klimt often visited for his morning coffee, disappeared a long time ago. But the Café Dommayer was close to his studio and was also frequented by him. It was here in the pavilion that Viennese bohemians once came and went, including Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka, Bahr and Josef Hoffmann. Today Café Dommayer is run by the Kurkonditorei Oberlaa.
The tiny mini-bar designed by Adolf Loos in downtown Vienna, still a hot spot today, was also visited by Gustav Klimt - say the biographers. But he probably preferred his studios for his flirtations. Today we know of six children who he acknowledged. But there were certainly many more, some say up to 13 in total.
