Imperial cuisine

From imperial rolls to imperial pancakes

There are many anecdotes about the famous Austrian “Kaiserschmarren”, a traditional pancake dish. One of them goes as follows: in 1854 the Viennese court pâtissier created a new dish for the wedding of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Elisabeth of Bavaria. But Elisabeth - always thinking about her slim figure - spurned this sweet dish. The Emperor jokingly took Sisi’s plate and said with a smile: "Well then give me the “Schmarren” which our Leopold has created”. The Emperor (the “Kaiser”) enjoyed the taste of this sweet dish so much that it was known ever after as “Kaiserschmarren”.

Imperial art & culture

With numerous Sisi exhibits

When visiting the Sisi Museum, I also recommend a walk through the Volksgarten, where Empress Elisabeth is immortalized in a quiet corner in the form of a monument. This former imperial rose garden scores every year with a flowering of 400 beautiful rose varieties.

Sometimes the weather just is not right, but that's not the only reason why it's not just worth watching the World Cup outdoors. Many venues in Vienna show the matches on large screens and make sure that you are completely taken care of while you watch. Burgers, beer and whiskey are waiting for you!
