In summer a very special ride on the Kitzbühel cable car will take you up to the Horn. It starts at 4.30 a.m. when it is still pitch dark. Once you are sitting in the gondola, the first rays of sun are already visible from behind the Loferer Steinbergen mountain range. At the top you can hear music being played. Ham, bread, cheese and fruit await you in the house at the top. Athletes and night owls don’t bother taking the ride and hike up. Pure magic!
The Saturday morning market in Kitzbühel is a great local event. The market traders position their wooden stands on the paving stones. They fill the shelves with fruit and vegetables. It smells of aromatic cheese, then again of freshly baked bread. And then you start to feel hungry. So, when the weather is fine, just drift from stand to stand and taste a bit of everything!
When the urge to go skiing diminishes in winter, an alternative sports programme is needed. Our tip: the Gieringer Weiher. The wildly romantic moor lake in the middle of the forest freezes over quickly. Umpteen ice curling sticks speed over the frozen surface every day on ten lanes. Just try it out and skid along with the rest - it's at least as much fun as sliding around on the piste!
The Angerer Alm is unusual: Annemarie Foidl has installed one of the best wine cellars in the Alps here, high up on the Horn: 6000 bottles from 400 wineries (Madeira vintage 1795!). You can drink a glass of wine on the large terrace with a view of the mountains. Definitely come by - there is no better place for enjoyment!
Sport aces and all who aspire to be one have plenty of opportunity to be active on the 127 km²: from yoga to water sports and boot camps, to dance and performance on the Mur Island.
